Nhiều người dùng cùng một loại sản phẩm, cùng một cách nặn cho cả blackhead lẫn whitehead, rồi thắc mắc sao kết quả không như mong đợi. Thực ra hai loại này hình thành theo cơ chế khác nhau nên cũng cần cách xử lý khác nhau.

Many people use the same products and same extraction approach for both blackheads and whiteheads — and wonder why results aren't as expected. In reality these two types have different formation mechanisms and need different approaches.

Blackhead (mụn đầu đen) — tại sao có màu đen?Blackheads — why are they black?

Blackhead là open comedone: lỗ chân lông vẫn mở, bã nhờn và tế bào chết tích tụ bên trong nhưng không có màng da phủ lên. Khi gặp không khí, melanin trong bã nhờn bị oxy hóa và chuyển sang màu đen. Đây là phản ứng oxy hóa bình thường chứ không phải do bụi bẩn.

Blackheads are open comedones — the pore is open, with sebum and dead cells accumulated inside but no skin film covering them. When exposed to air, melanin in the sebum oxidises and turns black — not because of dirt, but a normal oxidation reaction.

Whitehead cũng là closed comedone (nhân mụn kín): miệng lỗ chân lông bị một lớp da mỏng phủ lên, nên bã nhờn bên trong không tiếp xúc với không khí, không bị oxy hóa và có màu trắng hoặc vàng nhạt. Khác với mụn ẩn nằm sâu dưới da, whitehead nằm nông ngay dưới bề mặt, nhô lên thành nốt trắng nhỏ nhìn thấy được, nên khi đã chín thường dễ lấy nhân hơn.

Whiteheads are also closed comedones — the pore opening is covered by a thin layer of skin, so the sebum inside doesn't contact air and doesn't oxidise → white or pale yellow colour. Unlike deeper closed comedones, whiteheads sit just below the surface as small visible white bumps, so once mature they are generally easier to extract.

Với blackhead:For blackheads:

BHA (salicylic acid) là lựa chọn phù hợp vì tan trong dầu, thấm được vào lỗ chân lông mở và hòa tan bã nhờn. Dùng 2–3 lần/tuần. Peel định kỳ giúp hạn chế blackhead hình thành lại. Tránh dùng pore strip: miếng dán chỉ lấy được phần trên, rễ mụn vẫn còn nên blackhead sẽ sớm quay lại sau vài ngày.

BHA (salicylic acid) is a good fit — oil-soluble, penetrates open pores and dissolves the sebum plug. Use 2–3 times per week. Regular peels help limit blackhead reformation. Avoid pore strips — they only remove the top portion, the root remains and blackheads soon return within days.

Với whitehead:For whiteheads:

Dùng retinoid (như retinol) làm nền, kèm BHA ở mức nhẹ nhàng. Vì nằm nông ngay dưới bề mặt, whitehead đã chín có thể nặn đúng kỹ thuật tại spa. Đừng tự nặn ở nhà: dù trông dễ hơn blackhead, nặn sai lực vẫn có thể đẩy nhân mụn vào sâu và gây viêm.

A retinoid (such as retinol) as the base, plus gentle BHA. Because they sit just below the surface, fully matured whiteheads can be extracted with correct technique at a spa. Don't self-extract at home — although they appear easier than blackheads, incorrect force can still push contents inward causing inflammation.
