Ceramides are what literally holds your skin together. When depleted, skin loses water, becomes reactive and cannot protect itself. This article explains why Ceramides are considered one of the most important barrier repair ingredients.

Ceramides là gìWhat are Ceramides

Ceramides — vữa trong bức tường gạch của daCeramides — the mortar in your skin's brick wall

The most famous model in dermatological science is "brick and mortar": corneocytes are the bricks, intercellular lipids are the mortar — with Ceramides comprising approximately 50% of total lipids. Ceramides are a family of long-chain sphingolipids that retain water in skin, prevent irritant penetration and maintain structural integrity of the stratum corneum. When Ceramides decrease — due to ageing, overwashing, overly stripping products or conditions like eczema — the barrier weakens, skin loses water and becomes more reactive.

Ai cần CeramidesWho needs Ceramides

Da nào cần Ceramides nhất — và tại saoWhich skin types need Ceramides most — and why

Dry skin: Ceramides decrease with age. Dry skin typically has Ceramide deficiency — a self-reinforcing cycle: Ceramide deficiency → water loss → rougher skin → further Ceramide deficiency.
Sensitive skin / eczema: Filaggrin gene mutations (common in people with eczema) reduce the skin's natural moisturising factor (NMF) in the stratum corneum, weakening the barrier. Topical Ceramide supplementation is a foundational way to support the barrier.
Skin recovering from peel or retinol: Both temporarily thin and weaken the barrier — Ceramides can help skin recover faster.

📖 Nghiên cứu: Man, Feingold và cộng sự (1996) trên Journal of Investigative Dermatology thử bôi lipid lên da chuột thí nghiệm có hàng rào bị tổn thương và thấy chỉ hỗn hợp đủ cả ba nhóm (Ceramides + Cholesterol + Fatty Acids) theo tỷ lệ mol 1:1:1 mới giúp hàng rào phục hồi bình thường.📖 Research: Man, Feingold et al. (1996) in Journal of Investigative Dermatology applied lipids to barrier-disrupted mouse skin and found that only a complete mixture of all three (Ceramides + Cholesterol + Fatty Acids) in an equimolar 1:1:1 ratio allowed normal barrier recovery.

Cách dùngHow to use

Ceramides trong skincare — cách dùng đúng để hấp thụ hiệu quảCeramides in skincare — how to use correctly for effective absorption

Ceramides are best absorbed in liposome or lamellar body form (structure similar to skin's own lipids). Apply on damp skin (after toner) and at the last step of routine (moisturiser) to lock Ceramides into the stratum corneum. Combine with Cholesterol and Fatty Acids (Linoleic Acid) for better barrier recovery. Avoid combining with very low pH products immediately — can disrupt the liposome structure of Ceramides.

⭐ Đọc nhãn sản phẩm: tìm "Ceramide NP, AP, EOP, NS, AS", đây là những loại Ceramides sinh lý phổ biến nhất trong công thức mỹ phẩm. CeraVe và một số thương hiệu dược mỹ phẩm dùng Ceramides dạng MVE (Multivesicular Emulsion) để giải phóng hoạt chất từ từ.⭐ Product labels: Look for "Ceramide NP, AP, EOP, NS, AS" — the most physiologically relevant Ceramide types in cosmetic formulations. CeraVe and some cosmeceutical brands use MVE (Multivesicular Emulsion) Ceramides for sustained release.

FAQFAQ

Fairly similar. Many cosmetic Ceramides (Ceramide NP, AP, EOP...) are structurally close to the skin's natural Ceramides, so they can help replenish the lipids in the stratum corneum.

Yes, if you're using BHA or retinol, or have just had a peel. These temporarily weaken the skin barrier, and Ceramides can help your skin recover faster. If you've just had a peel, use them as Hana advises.

HA is a humectant: it draws water into the skin. Ceramides are emollients/occlusives that keep that water in the stratum corneum. The two complement each other rather than replace each other.
